Our Activities

What we do, and when

The Association's programmes follow the Hijri calendar, so their dates move forward by about eleven days each year in the Gregorian calendar. These are the stations of the year as our work has settled: most of them recur every year, and the time and place of each gathering are announced when it approaches. The invitation is open to men and women at these gatherings generally.

The Outreach Year

Welcoming Ramadan
Lessons in Sha'ban under the title “How we welcome Ramadan”, held in the town's mosques shortly before the month begins, together with a lecture on the fiqh of fasting and zakat.

Commemoration of the Prophetic Hijrah
A single devotional evening in Muharram, delivered by a visiting scholar in one of the town's mosques.
Commemoration of the Prophet's birthday (Mawlid)
The widest of our seasons of the year, and not one year has passed without it. Its forms have varied between a week of evenings in the mosques, the neighbourhood lessons, and a competition for the sons and daughters of the town.
The seasonal outreach campaign
A campaign carrying a single motto from the Book of God, under which a series of lessons and seminars is arranged in the mosques and the neighbourhood courtyards.

Ramadan in Qalansawe

Ramadan in Qalansawe

Ramadan is the longest of the Association's seasons and the busiest in work. It begins before the month enters, with lessons preparing to receive it, and then the daily lessons are distributed among the mosques of the town immediately after the afternoon (Asr) prayer, each mosque having its own sheikh on that day. At al-Faruq Mosque the Tarawih prayer is held as twenty rak'ahs, followed in the last third of the night by a night prayer (qiyam) programme with suhur, whose time moves earlier when the clocks go forward to summer time. We ask God Almighty to accept from us and from you the prayer, the fasting and the night prayer.

Mosque lessons after the Asr prayer
A short lesson on each day of the month, rotating among the mosques of the town according to a schedule that is announced, delivered in each mosque by one of its sheikhs.
Tarawih and the night prayer at al-Faruq Mosque
The Tarawih prayer of twenty rak'ahs every night, followed by a night prayer (qiyam) programme with suhur in the last third of the night, continuing to the end of the month.
Observing the last ten nights
The night prayer programme intensifies during the last ten nights, and its schedule is announced night by night.
“Ramadan Messages”
A short illustrated series published throughout the month, one message after another, concluding with the Eid message.

The Hajj season

The Hajj season

Each year the Islamic Association prepares, in cooperation with the Islamic Council for Ifta, the course on the fiqh of Hajj for pilgrims to the Sacred House of God. The course was held in 2026 for the fourth consecutive year, presented by Shaykh Mahmoud al-Arif Watad, member of the Islamic Council for Ifta, and it extends over two to three sessions comprising a clear exposition of the rulings of Hajj and its rites and answers to the questions of those present. The course brings together the pilgrims of that year from Qalansawe and the surrounding area.

The course is followed by the farewell ceremony for the pilgrims at the mosque after the sunset (Maghrib) prayer: a fragrant recitation from the Book of God, then a devotional exhortation by the guest of the ceremony, and at the close the distribution of gifts to the pilgrims presented by the Association. This ceremony has been held every year since 2022. We ask God Almighty to return the pilgrims to their families safe and rewarded, and to make it an accepted Hajj, an appreciated effort and a trade that will never perish.

Eid: a congregational prayer and a takbir march

At Eid the Islamic Association calls its people to a single congregational prayer at the sports ground, old and young, men, women and children, in application of the Sunna of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, of holding the Eid prayer in the open prayer ground. The time of the prayer is announced to the hour and the minute, and a prayer area is prepared for women in the same ground. The prayer has been held at the northern sports ground, at the covered football pitch, and in the yard of Khalid ibn al-Walid School, according to what is available each year. If the weather prevents it from being held in the open prayer ground, it is held in the mosques of the town and this is announced on the day.

On the night of Eid the takbir march sets out from al-Ribat Mosque to the northern park, and at its end there are gifts and activities for children. The march, and the activities connected with it on the night of Eid, were cancelled in 2024 and 2025, in solidarity with our people and our brothers in Gaza, and as a call to keep things brief and to refrain from displays of extravagance; the march then returned at Eid al-Adha in 2026. May God accept from us and from you our acts of obedience.

The circles of the Qur'an and its people

The circles of the Qur'an and its people

The project “Nur al-Bayan: memorising and expounding the words of the Most Merciful” is a weekly circle held every Saturday immediately after the sunset (Maghrib) prayer at al-Faruq Mosque, with Sheikh Muhammad Khatib. It runs along two tracks: general lessons in the exegesis of the Noble Qur'an, and groups for memorisation and follow-up for those who wish to memorise what is expounded in the lesson. The circle has proceeded in its exegesis one sura after another: Ya-Sin, then Ibrahim, then al-Saffat, then al-Mu'minun, then al-Naml.

Among our occasions of joy is to see the fruit of these circles in the sons of the town. The Islamic Association honoured its dutiful son Sheikh Adi Masoud Yassin on the occasion of his memorisation of the Book of God Almighty, and then congratulated him on obtaining an unbroken chain of transmission (isnad) in the Noble Qur'an back to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. We ask God Almighty to make the Great Qur'an the spring of our hearts.

The neighbourhood lessons

Alongside the lessons in the mosques, the Islamic Association carries its lesson out to the neighbourhoods of the town and the courtyards of its houses. The lesson is held in a courtyard opened by its owners, immediately after the night (Isha) prayer, and is attended by the people of the neighbourhood and those near them; the invitation is open to men and women. These lessons have been held under the banners of the outreach campaigns, so that the neighbourhood became a place of learning as it is a place of neighbourly company.

We extend particular thanks to the households that received these gatherings for the excellence of their hosting and the graciousness of their hospitality, and to the people of the neighbourhoods for their good reception. Whoever among our people wishes to host a lesson in the courtyard of his house or in his neighbourhood may contact us.

Women's dawah

The invitation is general, to men and to women, at the Association's evening gatherings and lessons in general, which is what we state in our announcements, and a prayer area is prepared for women at the congregational Eid prayer. Alongside this, the Association's women's mosque committee holds its own meetings for women and girls, among them the evening gathering “You Are the Story” for young adult women, which was held with prior registration and devoted to speaking about the hijab and religious commitment. The women's dawah also held a ceremony honouring the women pilgrims to the Sacred House of God from Qalansawe and the surrounding area, which opened with a recitation from the Book of God and included a faith exhortation, an interactive quiz and the distribution of gifts.

Record of the outreach campaigns

Record of the outreach campaigns

The Association's seasonal lessons and seminars are arranged under a single campaign carrying a motto from the Book of God; their dates and mosques are announced in advance, and they conclude with a joint gathering. These are the campaigns held so far:

A campaign on moderation in living and spending, which included the seminar “And do not be extravagant”, presented by Mr Ghassan Salih, financial and administrative consultant.

Where we meet

Where we meet

The Association's programmes move deliberately in rotation among the mosques of Qalansawe, so the gatherings of a single campaign are distributed over more than one mosque and each mosque has its share of the lessons and evenings. Alongside the mosques we meet in the town's halls, its sports grounds and the courtyards of its houses when a gathering calls for greater space.

Salah al-Din Mosque
The most widely attended of our mosques for the major evenings and the lessons of visiting scholars, and from it the buses of the journeys to the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque set out.
al-Faruq Mosque
The mosque of the Qur'an circles; in it is the “Nur al-Bayan” project every Saturday after the sunset (Maghrib) prayer, and in it are the Tarawih and the night prayer (qiyam) programme in Ramadan.
al-Ribat Mosque
From it the Eid takbir procession sets out to the northern park, and in it are lessons and evenings within the outreach campaigns.
al-Rahma Mosque
The seat of the course on the fiqh of Hajj for pilgrims to the Sacred House of God, and in it are seasonal evenings and lessons.
The Old Mosque — Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque
One of the mosques of the fixed rotation for the Night Journey and Ascension evenings and the Ramadan lessons.
al-Rayyan Mosque
One of the town's mosques in which the congregational prayers are held when they are distributed among the mosques.
The Ahliyya School and al-Sil Hall
The place for the youth evenings and for the gatherings too large for the mosque, and for courses in the Islamic sciences.
The northern sports ground and the northern park
The joint Eid prayer ground, and the end point of the takbir procession, where gifts are distributed to the children.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

These are answers to what is most often asked about the Association's gatherings and programmes, and for any further question our door is open for contact.

When are the Association's gatherings held?

Most gatherings are held immediately after the sunset (Maghrib) prayer or immediately after the night (Isha) prayer, and the time and place are announced before the gathering. What falls outside this — such as the joint Eid prayer, the takbir procession, and the night prayer (qiyam) programme in Ramadan — is announced with its own timing.

Is the invitation open to women?

The invitation is open to men and women at the Association's evenings and lessons generally, and a prayer area is prepared for women at the joint Eid prayer. The Women's Mosque Committee has its own gatherings for women and girls. Whatever is excepted from this is stated in the announcement.

Where are the gatherings held?

In the town's mosques in rotation among them, in the courtyards of the neighbourhoods and houses within the neighbourhood lessons, and at the Ahliyya School and al-Sil Hall when a gathering is large.

How do I join the course on the fiqh of Hajj?

The course is announced in the Hajj season of each year and extends over two to three sessions. It is designated for the pilgrims of that year from Qalansawe and the surrounding area, and it is enough to follow its announcement and attend at the appointed time.

How do I host a lesson in my neighbourhood?

Whoever wishes to open the courtyard of his house or his neighbourhood for one of the neighbourhood lessons may contact us, and the date is arranged within the existing series of lessons.

How do I take part in a convoy of the journeys to al-Aqsa?

The convoys are run by the mosque committees in Qalansawe, an independent body that announces its weekly and monthly programme, the registration numbers and the sponsorship of the buses, and women have their own registration line.

Does the Association have work specific to youth?

Yes; the Association has a youth committee that carries out voluntary field work, and from it branched the Athar Youth Committee, which began its work with the “Academic Guidance” project.
